The catalyst for my collection was a trip to Highgate cemetery. Plucking the deliciously glossy conkers from between ivy covered gravestones triggered forgotten memories of growing up in the Wiltshire countryside – boyhood freedoms from a lifetime ago that only now seem so relevant, memories and experiences that have shaped me.

My collection is a symbolic clashing of me now and me then – the relationship between irreverence and sentiment, an amalgam of innocence and deviance. I use fabrics and clothes as vehicles for humour and memories, exploring textiles and construction with the same spontaneous curiosity that I did as a child: hand drawn scribbles, worn socks naively patchworked, repurposed, found pieces of clothing, deconstructed T-shirts, raw edges, hanging threads, garments safety-pinned together. I play with bad taste to create pieces laced with parody and event, working with styling as a form of 3D collage, creating walking stories, celebrating failure and imperfection. I use the body as a platform to display an idea with clarity and speed.

I seek to push the boundaries of dressing, provoking and questioning codes of dress, deconstructing and recontextualising symbolic pieces of clothing: socks patchworked into a gown, a wellington boot as an opera glove, a high heeled shoe on the face. I aim to challenge the policed rules of dress for men in Britain asking why and why not.
